This is a wonderful H. & A. Selmer, Inc.
Jesse French & Sons upright piano with its own bench. It is being sold by the
second owner -- the original owner purchased it in the 1940’s and played it as a
child.
The piano is constructed of mahogany as
you can see when you click on the above link and look at the photo of the inside
lid and from the inside of the bench. The first owner painted the exterior black
but it still looks nice. The pedals are brass. All 88 keys work fine, although
some are chipped … but they can easily be replaced. The beautiful interior
workings of this instrument can be seen from the photos. Dimensions are:
56 inches wide
23 ½” deep
41 ¾” tall
Officially appraised at a value of
$1,200 in its current condition. We're starting the bidding at just HALF its
value!! The appraiser revealed that this is a rare musical instrument and
when restored to its original state its value will easily double to $2,400.
Jesse French and Sons were amongst the better makers of domestic pianos.
Of course the piano will need tuning when
it arrives at your home since that is normal from a long move. Please note that
the buyer must arrange and pay for shipment from St. Augustine, Florida. We can
offer suggestions if you’re unsure of how to handle shipping.
Jesse French & Sons Piano Company was
established in 1875 in Rochester, NY. The company was once a division of the
P.A. Starck Piano Company, and also shared the name, Dorman French & Smith
Pianos. It was also affiliated with Krell French and H. A. Selmer. Piano names
that are associated with Jesse French & Sons include Ackerman & Lowe,
Continental, Frenchetts, Jefferson, Krell-French, Lagonda, and Browning. In
1941, H. A. Selmer, Inc. entered the piano market, purchasing the Jesse French
Company of New Castle, Indiana. The division was closed in 1954 to concentrate
on band instruments.
